For every download of Alphie the Squid, $1 is donated to the Monterey Bay Aquarium Children’s Education Fund.
With on-site classrooms and exhibit galleries, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Children’s Education Fund helps children discover the wonders of the ocean through a hands-on approach, creating an emotional connection that encourages learning and gives kids confidence that they can make a difference for the ocean. Since 1984, more than 2 million school children and teachers have visited for free and participated in these educational programs.
Alphie the Squid is an educational game designed to help players learn more about marine biology. The team has worked to ensure the content in our game is as accurate and factual as possible and consulted with folks such as Professor William Gilly, one of the world’s leading squid experts. Professor Gilly is based at the Hopkins Marines Station of Stanford University.
Crystal Entertainment is proud to work with Professor Gilly in his efforts to develop a new ocean research center in Mexico called SURMAR (The Sustainable Use and Research of the Central Mar de Cortés). Based in Baja California Sur, Mexico, SURMAR will focus on finding sustainable uses of natural resources in the central Gulf of California and to study local marine organisms, including Humboldt squid, and their environment. In collaboration with ITESME, a technical college there, and El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve, SURMAR will further studies of marine biology in the Sea of Cortez.
